MAN WHO KILLED SISTER PLEADS GUILTY
A 68-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to murdering his infirm sister in an act he described to investigators as a “mercy killing.”
Alan James Head, of Idaho Springs, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his sister, Mary Jo Head, on July 27, 2019, according to a Fifth Judicial District Attorney’s Office news release.
According to the news release, Head shot his sister with a .22-caliber pistol while she was in bed. He then smothered her with a pillow. Head called 911 to report the incident. He was arrested while still on the phone with 911.
The plea agreement stipulates that Head, who remains in custody, will be sentenced to 16 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for March 30.
Driver pleads guilty to leaving the scene. A driver who hit two pedestrians near Coors Field on Aug. 25, 2019, has pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.
Manuel Saucedo entered the plea Monday and will serve three years of supervised probation and 90 days in the Denver jail, according to the Denver District Attorney’s Office. He’ll be sentenced April 13.
According to a probable cause arrest affidavit, Denver police responded to a fight that had broken out just before 2 a.m.
Police deployed multiple volleys of pepper balls, dispersing a crowd that had gathered. A vehicle’s occupants jumped back in the car and “the driver accelerated through the intersection, striking two pedestrians in the process,” the affidavit said.
