The NatureTeen program is a volunteer experience designed to foster leadership skills, mentoring roles, and job skills for youths ages 14-18. Most shifts include outdoor leadership and guidance for children in nature programs and camps.

Some camps are weekly from 9 a.m. to noon and others meet once for two to eight hours. Ten NatureTeens will be accepted at South Platte Park for the summer. Other opportunities will be available throughout the year.

All NatureTeens must commit to volunteering an average of 50 hours from the end of May through midAugust as well as working at least one major event during the summer. A training session May 27 will cover first aid, customer service, equipment and more.

Youths pay a $50 fee that covers training and T-shirts. Application information is available at bit.ly/2I0FETS.

College students can earn credits for their internship requirements at South Platte Park. This volunteer internship is a great way for students to gain real world job experience while completing a degree.

The internship position includes supporting and assisting with preparing materials, and conducting public interpretive programs for audiences of all ages both at and away from South Platte Park. Students will also work with vegetation management staff and rangers to gain a total park experience.

This internship is flexible with schedules and hours, and provides great entry level experience in natural resources, interpretation, and environmental education and in parks and recreation.
