Can Broncos double pleasure with WRs?

- By Mark Kiszla John Bazemore, Associated Press file

Denver Post columnist Mark Kiszla answered questions about all things Colorado sports in a live Lunch Special chat Monday at denverpost.com. Here are some highlights:

Q: Wouldn’t it be great if the Broncos could get Henry Ruggs III and Laviska Shenault in the upcoming draft?

Kiszla: Wouldn’t it be great if all our 401(k)s went up 100% in value today? You want to hoard receivers like toilet paper?

C’mon now. The Broncos are not drafting both Henry Ruggs and Laviska Shenault. Two wide receivers with two early picks? Cool to dream. But Denver’s roster has too many holes to start hoarding wide receivers like toilet paper. The receiver I like best in the middle of the first round is Justin Jefferson of LSU.

Q: Hopefully the NHL returns! Are a healthy Avs squad the team to beat on the Western Conference side of the bracket?

Kiszla: Hope is not a strategy against the ’rona. Social distancing is. The NHL season, if you ask me, is in huge jeopardy. The regular season is gone. And staging playoffs would seem to pose tricky logistics, at best. I’m no medical expert. But, as a sports observer, I think we will be fortunate to see games being played before Memorial Day. With a major disruption in the season,

I’m not certain if any team’s performance to this point would accurately predict what would happen next. Cancel the season? Abbreviated playoffs? Either way, it’s a shame for a great Avs team we all have missed seeing most of the season due to the silly dispute between Comcast and Altitude.

Q: Is Garett Bolles really going to be the Broncos’ left offensive tackle this coming season? Are there rumors we may trade up and get one of the top name tackles (Tristan Wirf )? Or will Graham Glasgow move to left tackle and Bolles into a guard position? I just can’t believe, with everything we are trying to accomplish, that Bolles would stay a starter at LT.

Kiszla: Graham Glasgow figures to be the starter at right guard. Or maybe center. Left tackle? Have not heard that and don’t think it’s a possibility. Four prospects at tackle are getting a lot of love in this draft. Jedrick

Wills of Alabama, Mekhi Becton of Louisville, Andrew Thomas of Georgia and Wirfs of Iowa. Which one is best? Not going to BS you. I don’t know. My lean is to Wills. But more important than my guesswork is the widespread speculation that the Broncos would have to trade up from No. 15 to draft any of these tackles.

Q: Do you know why coach Michael Malone is so reluctant to play Michael Porter Jr.? Seems like he plays five to seven minutes in the first half, and then is immediately relegated to the bench. This is true even when they are losing by 15 points to teams with records below .500. I realize he is a rookie, but I don’t understand why he continues to play Torrey Craig and Monte Morris ahead of him. Does Malone not care about the longterm benefits of developing a player like MPJ? He has the potential to be a top-three player on this team.
