SNOWMOBILE­R RESCUED AFTER HITTING TREE NEAR ASPEN

A snowmobile­r was rescued Tuesday in Pitkin County after hitting a tree and suffering head injuries.

At about 11:30 a.m., the county’s Regional Emergency Dispatch Center received a call for help from a person who was with the injured snowmobile­r, a 32-year-old man, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

The crash happened on Richmond Ridge near the Aspen Mountain Ski area, the news release said.

Mountain Rescue Aspen and the sheriff’s office responded to the incident, and rescuers on snowmobile reached the injured man at about 12:30 p.m. On-scene medical care was provided, and the man was taken by helicopter to Aspen Valley Hospital.
