Possibilities of booming rural economies with internet for all

Re: “Opportunity for a stronger education system in Colorado,” March 22 commentary

I will seize on George Brauchler’s column in The Sunday Denver Post, especially his reference to high-speed internet availability as a way to expand and improve schools in Colorado. Beyond expanding educational opportunities, high speed communications can be the basis for expansion of medical services, business opportunities, and even housing throughout Colorado, from the current concentration along the Front Range to smaller communities on the Eastern Plains and in the high country.

Imagine the possibilities of opening a business in a non-urban location in the state and being able to attract workers by offering exceptional education and health services in an environment of affordable housing and minimal commutes, which are away from the downsides of a large urban center.

Such an environment would benefit all of Colorado, and minimize the economic differences that now exist across the state. As we eventually recover from this pandemic, we as a state should have plans in place to take advantage of what will be personal and community changes of significant proportions.
