UNC ASSISTANT COACH, EX-STANFORD ATHLETE DIES AT 26
A recently-hired University of Northern Colorado assistant football coach died Thursday.
Zach Hoffpauir, 26, died in his sleep, according to a release from the athletic department. The university did not provide any additional details about the cause of death.
Head coach Ed McCaffrey hired Hoffpauir, a Stanford University graduate, in February to coach safeties. Hoffpauir was an Arizona native and tasked with recruiting players from the state.
His father, Doug Hoffpauir, told AZCentral his son was excited to start his coaching career at UNC and “influence lives beyond football.”
“He loved his head coach, Ed McCaffrey. Christian McCaffrey was his best friend,” Doug Hoffpauir said.

The pilot flying Kobe Bryant and seven others to a youth basketball tournament did not have alcohol or drugs in his system, and all nine sustained immediately fatal injuries when their helicopter slammed into a hillside outside Los Angeles in January, according to autopsies.
The reports by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office provide a clinical but unvarnished look at just how brutal the crash was, describing broken bones, dismembered body parts and a stench of fuel on what remained of clothing that burned.
Bryant was broken beyond recognition when his body was found in the dirt outside the wreckage of the chopper. His remains had to be identified by his fingerprints.
McIlroy criticizes Trump, wouldn’t play golf with him again. Rory McIlroy says he wouldn’t play golf again with President Donald Trump and doubts he would even be invited after questioning his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic.
McIlroy did an interview for the McKellar Journal podcast in which he was asked whether he regretted the February 2017 round with Trump because of criticism on social media.
“I haven’t done it since ... out of choice,” McIlroy said.
McIlroy, the No. 1 player in the world, said he played with Trump out of respect for the office.

The attorney for Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar says he has five signed affidavits from witnesses that exonerate his client in an armed robbery.
Attorney Michael Grieco said the affidavits were presented to Broward County prosecutors but authorities still want Dunbar to turn himself in.
Police in Miramar, Florida, issued arrest warrants Thursday for Dunbar and New York Giants cornerback Deandre Baker after multiple witnesses accused them of an armed robbery at a party.
Tennis tours extend coronavirus breaks. More than 40 top-level professional tennis tournaments are off the 2020 calendar because of the coronavirus pandemic as the men’s and women’s tours extended their breaks through July. ATP chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said in a statement that his tour is assessing the “feasibility of rescheduling events later in the season.”
