- — Staff and wire reports

Longmont police shot a man early Friday after he reportedly pulled a pellet gun designed to look like a pistol on officers.

The man, identified only as a 26-year-old Black man from Illinois, was in critical condition at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland.

According to a news release, police were called to an apartment complex at 600 Martin Street at 1:11 a.m. Friday for a man with a gun reportedly harassing a woman.

When police arrived, they saw the suspect and asked him to put his hands up. They asked if he was armed. The man told police he was not armed and initially complied with orders. But according to the release, as officers got closer the man pulled what appeared to be a pistol from his waistband and pointed it at them.

The release did not say how many times the man was shot.

Police investigate officer’s alleged comments calling for protesters to be killed.

COLORADO SPRINGS» Police are conducting an investigation of an officer accused of calling for protesters to be killed during a live social media broadcast.

Demonstrators blocked Interstate 25 for about 30 minutes while calling for an end to racial injustice and police brutality.

The tip alleged a police sergeant used the pseudonym Steven Eric when posting comments including, “KILL THEM ALL.”

The Facebook account has since been deleted.

Department spokesman Lt. Jim Sokolik would not confirm the accused officer’s name. The officer is on vacation and will be interviewed upon returning, he said.
