Rockies 4, Padres 3: Daniel Murphy gets Colorado a walk- off win with pinch- hit single in the ninth.

Antonio Senzatela desperately needed a bounce- back performance Saturday.

The Rockies pitcher, less than a week removed from a six- run shellacking at the Dodgers, responded against the Padres with one of his best outings of the season.

And, despite another shaky bullpen performance, Colorado escaped with a 4- 3 walk- off victory when pinch- hitter Daniel Murphy blasted an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth scoring outfielder Garrett Hampson.

Senzatela pitched seven shutout innings, shortstop Trevor Story extended his hitting streak to nine games and the Rockies went back above .500 ( 17- 16).

Senzatela kept the Padres’ bats down with 11 groundouts, three flyouts, three strikeouts and just one walk. The Rockies managed to win Saturday despite the fact that third baseman Nolan Arenado and outfielder Charlie Blackmon combined to go 1- for- 8 at the plate and left a combined seven runners on base.

The bottom of the Rockies’ lineup jumpstarted their early offense. With the game scoreless in the bottom of the third, first baseman Josh Fuentes doubled on a line drive to center. Catcher Tony

Wolters followed with a single to left, and two batters later, Story drove Fuentes home on a single to center. Colorado led 1- 0.

Run support wouldn’t arrive until the seventh inning when Hampson drove a ball that ricocheted into the air off third base — allowing Brendan Rodgers enough time to beat the throw home. With two outs, Rockies outfielder Raimel Tapia singled on a ground ball to left that scored pinch- runner Ryan McMahon. Colorado’s advantage grew to 3- 0.

Colorado turned to relief pitcher Carlos Estevez in the eighth inning. With two outs, plus runners on first and third,

Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth doubled to deep right — scoring Tatis and Machado. On the next at- bat, San Diego outfielder Wil Myers singled to center and his RBI tied the game at 3- 3.

Pitcher Daniel Bard entered for Colorado in the ninth and earned the win after he forced a groundout double- play and ended the frame with three consecutive strikes to Trent Grisham. The Rockies’ walk- off winner from Hampson, the team’s first of this season, was given up by San Diego closer Craig Stammen.

The Rockies- Padres series continues with Game 3 at 1: 10 p. m. Sunday.
