CSU ATHLETES FACE DEADLINE TO OPT IN; PROGRAMS RESUME Big Ten vote was 11- 3 to postpone. Pelicans’ Ingram named most improved.

-

With one week of Colorado State’s fall semester in the books, CSU athletic programs were able to resume NCAA- approved activities on Monday.

For fall student- athletes, the list of permitted actions includes strength and conditioning workouts as well as team- oriented gatherings with a reduced number of athletes –– all of which will immediately proceed under stern health and safety procedures.

Notably, all CSU athletes who wish to participate in 2020- 2021 were told they needed to opt- in by Monday night, while players also have the option of opting out of the upcoming year. In light of emergency legislation installed by the NCAA on Aug. 21, players who elect to opt- out will not suffer a reduced scholarship and will remain eligible to receive academic support and medical attention from CSU.

A court filing disclosed Monday shows Big Ten Conference presidents voted 11- 3 to postpone the football season, bringing some clarity to a key question raised in a lawsuit brought by a group of Nebraska football players.

The court documents did not identify how each school voted, but a person familiar with the outcome told The Associated Press that Iowa, Nebraska and Ohio State voted against postponing the fall football season. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Big Ten was not planning on making the specifics of its vote public.

NEW ORLEANS » Pelicans forward Brandon Ingram has been named the NBA’s most improved player in a season that saw him bounce back from a life- altering blood clot and a trade from the team that drafted him second overall in 2016.

Ingram, who came to New Orleans as part of a blockbuster trade that sent Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers, averaged a team- leading and career- best 23.8 points per game while hitting 46.3% of his shots. He also became an NBA All- Star for the first time.

Zozo Championship will be in California.

The Zozo Championship is moving from Japan to California this year because of the COVID- 19 pandemic, making it the anchor of a West Coast Swing in the fall portion of the schedule that is certain to attract strong fields.

The $ 8 million tournament will be played Oct. 22- 25 at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif., with Tiger Woods as the defending champion on a course where he has won five times.
