A suspect has been charged with murder in Denver for a double shooting that started over a dispute about children playing in a yard.

Jason Arroyo, 33, has been charged with murder, attempted murder and menacing, according to the Denver district attorney’s office.

The charges stem from a Sept. 6 incident on West 35th Avenue and Lipan Street, according to a probable cause statement in the case. Arroyo threw water on children playing in a yard, and when a dispute arose he went into a residence and returned with a gun, according to the statement.

Arroyo allegedly fired about six shots, and two people were hit, the court document said. Patricia Cruz, 55, died on Sept. 18 at Denver Health of gunshot wounds, according to the medical examiner’s office.
