2018 Texans: Equipped with now- Broncos safety Kareem Jackson, Houston ended up winning the division at 11- 5 before falling to Indianapol­is in the wild card.

1998 Bills: With future Denver defensive coordinato­r Wade Phillips as head coach, Buffalo caught its breath with a Week 4 bye and finished 10- 6 before losing to Miami in the wild card.

1995 Lions: Detroit was 3- 6 at one point, but Hall of Famer Barry Sanders propelled the Lions into the wild card round with a 10- 6 mark, where they lost to the Eagles.

1992 Chargers: The only team in NFL history to make the playoffs after starting 0- 4, San Diego won 10 of its last 11 games to win the AFC West before falling in the divisional round to Miami.

1982 Buccaneers: In a strike- shortened season, Tampa Bay finished 5- 4 and earned one of the expanded playoff spots that year before losing to Dallas in the wild card.

1981 Jets: A pair of blowouts and a one- point loss set New York up at 0- 3, but the Jets rallied to finish 10- 5- 1 before losing a close wild- card game to Buffalo.
