Driver who fell asleep, killed two in Summit County crash gets 21 months in jail.

An Aurora man who caused a fatal two- vehicle crash in Summit County has been sentenced to 21 months in jail.

Adrian Delgado, 25, was sentenced after pleading guilty to careless driving resulting in death and careless driving resulting in injury, according to the district attorney’s office.

On Oct. 3, 2019, Delgado was driving a Dodge Ram pickup truck on U. S. Highway 6 in Dillon when the truck crossed a median hitting a Ford F- 150 truck, according to a news release. Larry “Mike” Kennedy, 58, driver of the Ford and Ronnie Suenram, 59, died in the crash.

The wives of both men were severely injured.

The victims, from Oklahoma, were on vacation in Colorado at the time.

Delgado fell asleep behind the wheel as he was driving to work in the early morning hours, the release said. Delgado entered a plea agreement in the case on July 28.

Judge Edward Casias also sentenced Delgado to 200 hours of community service.

A 66- year- old man from New Mexico died Wednesday morning in southern Colorado after being stopped by the Colorado State Patrol.

The in- custody death is being investigat­ed by the CSP and the Colorado Bureau of Investigat­ion, according to a news release.

About 6: 30 a. m. the man was driving a Ford Crown Victoria on Interstate 25 near the state line when he was pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence, the release said.

A sergeant stopped the vehicle, carried out an investigat­ion, and placed the man in custody in back of a CSP vehicle sitting in an upright position. On the way to the Las Animas County Jail the sergeant pulled over to check on the man and determined he wasn’t breathing.

The sergeant performed CPR and paramedics took the man to Mt. San Rafael Hospital, in Trinidad, where he was pronounced dead.

The man was not identified on Wednesday.

The sergeant, who was not identified, is on administra­tive leave per CSP policy.

A man stabbed in Denver who later died at Denver Health Medical Center has been identified.

Israel Casillas, 27, died Tuesday at Denver Health Medical Center, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. Casillas died of “sharp force injuries, the coroner’s office said, and his manner of death is a homicide.

Casillas, and another man, were stabbed on

Sept. 24 in downtown Denver at Speer Boulevard and Stout Street, police said. The other victim was treated at the hospital and released.

A suspect has not been arrested in the case.
