Pumpkin patches, corn mazes and frights

- By Barbara Ellis

Here’s the bad news this fall: Well, we don’t have to tell you.

But here’s some good news: Pumpkin patches and corn mazes are outdoors. So as long as you practice CDC- recommended precautions, and are comfortable doing so, you may yet be able to frolic at a fall festival.

Some places have canceled their fall events altogether this year, but there are still opportunities to pick a pumpkin, build a scarecrow, take a hayride, sip some cider and maybe get the bejesus scared out of you by a ghastly ghoul.

About those precautions: Most locations are requiring masks while waiting in lines or anywhere you can’t maintain 6 feet of distance, and are providing sanitizers and hand- washing stations. Some may be limiting the number of guests allowed, or only selling advance tickets. Before you go, it’s best to check the websites or call for details.
