TrooPer, drIver Injured after Patrol car hIt on I-70

A driver and a state trooper were injured early Friday when a vehicle hit the trooper’s patrol car on Interstate 70 near Watkins.

The crash happened about 3 a.m. in the westbound lanes. The driver of the vehicle that hit the trooper’s vehicle suffered serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler. The trooper, who was in her vehicle when it was hit, sustained minor injuries.

The trooper was parked off the highway with lights flashing to investigat­e and aid the driver of a pickup that had slid into a guard rail, Cutler said.

That’s when the driver of a blue Acura hit the State Patrol car.

Suspect in shooting death of Denver woman surrenders to police.

A man suspected in the shooting death of a Denver woman who was to be a witness in a Pueblo murder trial turned himself over to police Thursday night.

Emmanuel Chandler, 29, is being held for investigat­ion of first-degree murder for the death of 31-year-old Roxann Martinez, according to Denver police. Martinez was shot about 11 p.m. Feb. 25 near East Kenyon Drive and South Wabash Street.

Martinez was a witness who could have testified in the ongoing murder trial of Donthe Lucas, a 28-yearold man charged with killing his pregnant girlfriend, Kelsie Schelling, 21. Schelling disappeare­d in February 2013, and her body has not been found.

Police investigat­ors do not believe her death is connected to her status as a witness. On Friday police said Martinez’s death “appears to be the result of a domestic violence-related incident.”

Larimer County man accused of scamming $852,000 from at least 15 people. A Larimer County man faces charges in Weld County as he is suspected of scamming more than $852,000 from at least 15 victims in a real estate scheme. Bret Lamperes, 51, of Berthoud, is accused of theft, money laundering, and tax evasion and two counts of filing a false tax return, according to the Weld County district attorney’s office.

Weld County investigat­ors said Lamperes operated Investment­s of Windsor LCC starting in February 2015. They believe Lamperes, who was working as a real estate agent at the time, executed 29 sales contracts for condominiu­ms related to the Investment­s of Windsor project in Windsor. However, only eight of the 29 condos were built pursuant to the sales contracts.

Three suffer burn injuries in apartment explosion. GREELEY» Two women and a man are in serious condition in a hospital after suffering severe burns in an explosion and fire early Friday at an apartment building.

Firefighte­rs and police were dispatched about 2:10 a.m. Friday to a structure fire in an apartment. Witnesses reported a large explosion occurred and flames were spotted coming from an apartment.

Greeley police said the apartment is considered a total loss.

The Greeley Fire Department said three families, including four people and a dog, were displaced by the incident. They were offered assistance from the Red Cross.
