Other reasons the GOP may be losing support

Re: “Colorado GOP must ditch election fraud conspiracies,” March 25 commentary

From the headline, I thought that someone in the state leadership of the GOP was finally calling out the continued efforts by Republicans to justify the response of the Jan. 6 insurrectionists to the Big Lie.

While the author did make a compelling case for the pursuit of those conspiracy theories to be at the expense of winning elections, I was disappointed to see the author using standard (dog whistle) GOP words and phrases to describe Democratic programs and elected officials: “hapless sidekick, Joe Biden” “bailing out … Democratic states and cities…” “will kill mining and the oil and gas industry” and many other words and phrases in this article have been used and misused by the GOP through several election cycles with decreasing success.

While those phrases may be of comfort to the ever-shrinking Republican base, both in Colorado and at the federal level, I don’t see them as gathering voters to the conservative side of the political spectrum, or gaining votes for Republican candidates.

Dick Wadhams talks about the Republican Party’s fixation on voter fraud as a reason they might lose more voters in the next election.

I suggest he look at the entire first half of his article for another possible reason: The bitterness and vitriol of his position is frightening to many voters.

You need to stop calling people socialists for not wanting their family members gunned down at the supermarket, Dick.
