YOUNG BEAR IS EUTHANIZED AFTER FALLING OVER WATERFALL

- — Jake Shapiro,

A 250-pound bear had to be euthanized Sunday after it took a tumble down Seven Falls on the Broadmoor property in Colorado Springs.

The 3- or 4-year-old bear fell 15 feet down an upper falls, which crippled the animal.

It then plunged 40 feet down another of the falls.

Wildlife officials say the brutal impacts of the falls forced them to euthanize the helpless animal.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers found a serious wound and infection on the bear’s right side, which they say may have contributed to the bear’s stumble down the falls.

CPW was assisted by Broadmoor Fire Protection District firefighters and El Paso County Search and Rescue as the two made a daunting body recovery of the bear.

Crews hustled up 120 stairs, then had to meander a slick, steep canyon where the waterfall pools.

After reaching the bear, they created a pulley system to lower the bear 12 stories out of the area.
