Man sentenced in grandmother’s death
A 25-year-old man convicted of first-degree murder in the beating death of his 75-year-old grandmother, who was found lying on the floor of her Westminster apartment, has been sentenced to life in prison.
John Swenson was sentenced Monday afternoon for the Dec. 9, 2019, death of Linda Shomberg, who was found in her apartment in a senior housing center, according to the Adams County District Attorney’s Office.
A jury found Swenson guilty on April 29.
At the time of her death, police checked on Shomberg after a caller reported that she’d not been able to contact her for several days. The victim was found bleeding from the head and unresponsive. Swenson had been staying with his grandmother after he was removed from a halfway house, according to the DA’s office.
