1 kIlled after drIver hIts deer on I-25

-

A woman was killed and at least 12 others were injured after multiple vehicles were involved Monday in an early-morning crash on Interstate 25 north of Castle Rock, the state patrol said.

Colorado State Patrol Master Trooper Gary Cutler said a vehicle hit a deer in the southbound lanes of I-25. The vehicle that hit the deer was no longer drivable and the woman who was driving got out. That’s when she was hit and killed by another vehicle. The woman’s body ended up in the northbound lanes, causing a shutdown on that side of the roadway.

Cutler said at least 12 people were injured in the incident, but the conditions of those who were injured were not immediately known. It wasn’t clear if the injured people were inside or outside of vehicles when they were hurt.

The mangled wreckage of at least three vehicles could be seen in photos posted on Twitter by

South Metro Fire Rescue, and debris littered the roadway.

The crash happened just before 1 a.m. at milemarker 186, 2 miles north of Castle Rock. The wreck kept the southbound lanes of I-25 closed for more than six hours. The lanes reopened just after 7 a.m. Cutler said drugs or alcohol were not believed to be factors.
