MAN SHOT DEAD IN BROOMFIELD IS IDENTIFIED

A Broomfield resident who was shot dead Wednesday morning had interrupte­d a crime in progress, police said.

Michael Lewis, 71, of the Sunridge neighborho­od, was identified Thursday as the victim in the case.

About 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to the 2200 block of Sunridge Circle near U.S. 287 and Miramonte Boulevard on reports of a disturbanc­e and shots fired. When they arrived, they found Lewis dead in a parking lot.

Several vehicle break-ins were reported in the area early Wednesday. Investigat­ors continue to look for a suspect, or suspects, in the case.

Four-vehicle crash on U.S. 285 kills two.

A fourvehicl­e crash on U.S. 285 in Jefferson County killed two people Thursday. An adult died at the scene, and a child was pronounced dead at a hospital, the

State Patrol said. The crash happened about 3:40 p.m. between Pine Junction and Conifer. Four people injured in the crash were taken to hospitals, including the child.

Woman beaten in Aurora, dies at hospital.

A woman was beaten to death in Aurora on Thursday morning near East Colfax Avenue and Emporia Street.

Officers were called to the area about 6 a.m. on a report of an assault, police said. They found a woman on the ground with serious injuries, police said. She was taken to a hospital, where she died.

The victim’s identity will be released by the Arapahoe County coroner’s office.

Truck crashes into vehicle on I-70 east of Georgetown.

A stretch of eastbound Interstate 70 in the mountains was closed Thursday by a serious crash involving a truck that struck a vehicle and trailer on the shoulder.

The crash, east of Georgetown, involved “critical injuries,” according to the State Patrol.

A tow-truck driver, in his personal vehicle with a trailer attached, had stopped to work on the vehicle or the trailer when a passing truck crashed into the vehicle, said Master Trooper Gary Cutler of the State Patrol.

The truck driver and the two-truck driver were taken to hospitals.

Eastbound traffic on I-70 was shut down in Silverthor­ne, according to the state Department of Transporta­tion. The crash caused a fuel spill on the highway.

Missing southern Colorado woman found in hidden grave.

ALAMOSA» A 21-year-old woman who went missing in early August has been found in a hidden grave in a remote area of southern Colorado.

Cheyenne Goins of Alamosa was reported missing by her family Aug. 12, and her body was found in Alamosa County on Saturday. Her death was ruled a homicide, but investigat­ors have not said how she was killed.

A 33-year-old Alamosa man who was one of several people last seen with Goins is considered a person of interest in her disappeara­nce. He was shot and killed by police in Northglenn on Aug. 18. Investigat­ors have not connected him to Goins’ slaying, and no one has been arrested.

The Alamosa County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigat­ion are involved in the case.

Eldora will not require parking reservatio­ns for season.

Eldora plans to open its new season in November and this year will not require parking reservatio­ns.

In a release, Eldora announced its tentative opening date is Nov. 19 and its tentative closing date is April 17. Eldora will charge $10 for single-occupancy vehicles on weekends and holidays as required by Boulder County.

Fifth man arrested in connection to string of crimes, fatal shooting.

A fifth man wanted for a series of crimes in Denver last week that left an 18year-old student dead was taken into custody Wednesday night, according to Denver police.

Samuel Fussell, 18, was arrested on charges of first-degree murder, firstdegre­e assault, aggravated robbery, aggravated motor vehicle theft, first- and second-degree burglary and felony menacing.

Fussell was taken into custody in Greeley by the Denver police’s fugitive unit, with the assistance of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force and Greeley police.

Isaiah Freeman and Aden Sides, both 18, Noah Loepp-hall, 19, and Seth Larhode, 21, have been arrested for the series of crimes. All five have been connected to the killing of Shmuel Silverberg, a student of Yeshiva Toras Chaim, a Torah school on West Colfax Avenue.

Silverberg was shot outside of the school and ran back inside the building, with the suspects following him before fleeing, police said last week.
