Get access to the Denver Tool Library
Denver Public Library cards will now double as passports to the Denver Tool Library, officials announced Wednesday.
Cardholders will be able to check out 10 tools, including three power tools, for up to a week from the popular lending program. Like any book or physical media at the library, the agreement requires DPL cardholders to borrow one of five tool-library membership passes that are held by DPL, available to reserve at denverpubliclibrary.org.
Cardholders must bring their membership and borrowed DTL pass to the tool library, sign a waiver, and present a photo ID and credit card when checking out for the first time. Those without either can still consult with DTL staff, according to the website, and see what’s possible.
All five passes were checked out as of this writing — with 23 holds, according to the website. Denver Tool Library typically charges a $120 flat fee for an annual membership, and requires booking appointments to check in and return tools.
The six-year-old tool library lends out expensive tools and offers advice on how to use them, serving more than 500 families per year, DPL officials wrote. The tool library also offers workshops and classes on specific topics such as Welding 101, Drywall Basics and Intro to Blacksmithing.
The 5,000-tool collection for DIY projects, home repair and remodeling, lawn and garden care, vehicle conversions, and more is located at 555 Santa Fe Drive. Adults need to co-sign for those 18 and under.
Denver Tool Library is open 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. To see the tool library’s collection, and learn more about the program, visit ow.ly/u1el30rpyaj.
