Glasgow out for season with ankle fracture, Massie also out

Broncos right guard Graham Glasgow will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a left ankle fracture during Sunday’s 30-16 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

Glasgow was injured on the final play of the first half when Cowboys defensive end Randy Gregory was engaged with center Lloyd Cushenberry and blocked Cushenberry into the back of Glasgow’s legs. He was immediately fitted with an air cast and carted to the locker room.

Glasgow announced his prognosis on Twitter Monday afternoon.

“I’m extremely frustrated and saddened that this is the end of the season for me,” he wrote. “With that being said, I know I’ll come back better and stronger than ever for next season.”

Glasgow was one of five Broncos who were unable to finish the Dallas game.

Coach Vic Fangio said Monday cornerback Pat Surtain II was still undergoing tests and did not speculate on his status for Sunday’s game against Philadelphia.

Fangio said right tackle Bobby

Massie (ankle) will “miss a game or two.” Massie, who played every offensive snap in the first eight games, was injured when left tackle Calvin Anderson blocked defensive end Dorance Armstrong to the ground and into the back of Massie’s left leg. Cam Fleming took over for Massie.

Fangio said left guard Dalton Risner (upper body) is “fine” and he didn’t have an update on defensive end Mctelvin Agim (knee).

Among the players who didn’t play against Dallas, Fangio said outside linebacker Malik Reed (hip) and left tackle Garett Bolles (ankle) are possible returnees against Philadelphia and the team will continue to monitor nose tackle Mike Purcell (thumb) and how he practices with his cast.

The Broncos will get Muti back from a two-game COVID19 positive test absence on Tuesday and Fangio said tight end Noah Fant has “one more hurdle to cross,” in his return from the COVID-19 reserve list.

If Muti is healthy, he or rookie Quinn Meinerz would be the options to replace Glasgow.

Glasgow, 29, signed a fouryear, $44 million contract with the Broncos in March 2020, but will end his second season missing 13 of a possible 33 games.

Glasgow missed three games last year because of injuries and testing positive for coronavirus and single games this year with an irregular heartbeat and a knee injury. He has remaining salary cap hits of $12 million and $14 million in 2022-23. If the Broncos cut him after the season, they will absorb dead cap hits of $6 million in ’22 and $3 million in ’23.

Fangio said backup quarterback Drew Lock, who tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend, has returned to the Denver area. … Nose tackle Deshawn Williams on Sunday’s win: “I think it (will be) a big momentum boost for our next couple games. It was just one of those weeks when we heard the naysayers; I don’t think anybody picked us to win the game because of their record. I guess we just wanted to shut everybody up and play our brand of ball and I think we did that.” … If Bolles returns, Fangio said Calvin Anderson, Sunday’s left tackle, could “possibly” move to right tackle to fill in for Massie.
