SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. Yorvit Torrealba strolled the hallways at the Rockies’ Salt River Fields complex on Monday looking like he could still crouch behind the plate to call a game or hit a gamechanging homer.

But Torrealba, who played for the Rockies for five seasons, including on the 2007 World Series team, is now 43. His son, Yorvis, 24, is an outfielder in the Rockies’ minor-league system.

“I’m really excited to see him in uniform for the Rockies because that’s where I had my best years,” said Yorvit, who along with former teammate Clint Barmes, is spending a week at Salt River Fields instructing the minor leaguers.

Yorvis was selected by Colorado in the 20th round of the 2019 draft out of the University of Tampa. He struggled with the shortseason Boise Hawks following the draft, slashing .228/.307/.284 with no home runs in 211 at-bats. Arbitration update.

The Rockies have not reached a contract extension with left-hander Kyle Freeland, so the two sides exchanged arbitration figures for Freeland’s pending one-year deal.

The club filed at $6.4 million, while Freeland filed at $7.8 million. The left-hander, who is scheduled to become a free agent at the 2023 season, made $5.025 million last year.

The Rockies reached one-year deals to avoid arbitration with the following players: outfielder Raimel Tapia ($3.95 million), right-handers Robert Stephenson ($1.28 million), Peter Lambert ($762,500) and Carlos Estevez ($3.025 million), and utility player Garrett Hampson ($1.8265 million).

Footnote.

Right-hander Antonio Senzatela is scheduled to make his first Cactus League start Thursday against the Dodgers, but there is a good chance he will pitch in a minor-league game instead. The Rockies open the regular season on April 8 vs. the Dodgers.
