ACCESSORY DWELLINGS FOR FIRE VICTIMS CONSIDERED
BOULDER COUNTY » The Planning Commission approved amendments to the land use code Wednesday regarding accessory dwelling units, often called ADUS.
The approval advances a change to the code that would allow the construction of an ADU to serve as interim housing on the existing property of residents who intend to rebuild their home lost in the Marshall fire.
An initiative to make amendments to the code came back in May as part of a broader effort to provide disaster relief housing for people who lost their homes in the December fires.
The Planning Commission amendments were sent back to the county commissioners with additional comments and recommendations after several hours listening to public comments and in open discussion.
The initial language of the amendment specified the ADU to be no larger than 700 square feet. Many of the comments, including letters to the commission, rejected the proposed square footage.
The Planning Commission recommendations on the code will be in front of the county commissioners again Aug. 4.
Deputies trade gunfire with driver.
LARIMER COUNTY » Fort Collins Police Services is investigating a Fort Collins man who allegedly traded gunfire with sheriff’s deputies this month.
According to the 8th Judicial District, about 10: 30 p. m. July 12, a sheriff’s deputy encountered a 2009 silver Ford Escape driving in Fort Collins at high speed. The deputy initiated a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over. A second deputy responded.
At this point the driver, identified as 21- year- old Bryan Erdbruegger, reportedly fired shots toward the deputies, the release said, and both deputies returned fire. Erdbruegger, still armed with a handgun, then approached the patrol vehicles on foot, and a brief struggle with deputies began. During this struggle, a deputy fired a weapon at Erdbruegger, hitting him, according to a news release.
Erdbruegger was arrested and transported to a hospital. The deputies were not hurt.
A passing vehicle was also struck by gunfire during the incident, the release said, but the occupants were not injured.
Erdbruegger was released from the hospital Wednesday and booked into the Larimer County jail on charges including two counts of attempted first- degree murder of a peace officer, a class 2 felony; illegal discharge of a firearm, a class 5 felony; and seconddegree assault, a class 4 felony.
