Broomfield welcomes first dispensary

- By Sydney Mcdonald

Broomfield officially has welcomed its first cannabis dispensary, Magnolia Road, to the community.

Magnolia Road opened its doors Oct. 24.

“It’s been such a welcoming reception from the community,” owner Dan Martin said.

Martin, who owns other dispensaries in Boulder and Trinidad, is a Broomfield local.

“I grew up in neighborhoods right around where the store is located,” Martin said. “My parents and sister are both right down the street. Everyone coming in feels like a neighbor.”

As a local, leading the way for cannabis businesses in Broomfield is a great honor, Martin said.

“Being the first in my hometown feels incredible,” Martin said. “It’s been a long time coming and being first is so exciting. I don’t know if I’ll ever come down from it.”

Martin said the Broomfield community can expect good prices and quality products from Magnolia Road.

“Ever y thing we do is with the customer in mind,” Martin said. “From the products we carry to pricing, we work diligently to make sure we have com

petitive prices and work with a ton of vendors to have a variety of products so everyone can have their needs met.”

Broomfield approved the sale of medical and recreational marijuana in the city and county in March of 2021, and applicants went through a long and tedious process that eventually led to a lottery where the first three licenses were awarded in February.

The application process encountered a road bump

when the city and county clerk was sued after some entities weren’t disqualified from the process after submitting multiple applications to increase their chances in the lottery.

Martin said he was glad to see the city decided to do away with the lottery, as the new process will allow the city to be more selective about what businesses end up in the community.

“I’m confident we would have still ended up with a license either way, but going

through the lottery process was nerve-racking,” Martin said. “I think the changes they’ve made to the code recently will all work out well. Keeping it relatively small with only six licenses and being able to be selective of the next three will be best for the city.”

Currently, there are two other licenses that have been awarded to Buena Suerte Company, LLC and Livwell XIV, LLC, but neither has opened their stores yet.
