Tina Harris sworn in as clerk and recorder

- By Will Costello

Tina Harris was officially sworn into the office of Larimer County clerk and recorder on Thursday, replacing Angela Myers, who announced earlier this year that she would step down from the elected position.

“This is a new day in the clerk and recorder’s office, and I’m very excited to take on this journey with all of you,” Harris told a crowd in the commissioners hearing room at the county office building in Fort Collins.

The crowd, which included Harris’ family, employees from her office and county officials, was treated to lunch following the swearing-in ceremony.

“I’m excited for this new chapter,” Harris continued. “Let’s hit the ground running guys.”

Harris, who has served in the county clerk’s office for more than 20 years, beginning as a vehicle licensing director, was chosen to replace Myers by county commissioners after the former clerk announced that changing life circumstances had forced her to retire.

Myers had just won reelection in November to what would have been her last term.

She was not present at the swearing-in ceremony but has spoken approvingly of her replacement.

The feeling is mutual, and Harris had kind words for her predecessor.

“She has been an absolutely wonderful mentor,” Harris said of Myers.

The county clerk is responsible for keeping various records for citizens, including marriage licenses, vehicle registrations and passports, and also administers elections.

The next election is this November.

“We’re getting there, yes we are,” Harris said when asked if her office is ready. “In fact we’re very excited about it.”
