Locke active following throat injury

Broncos safety P. J. Locke recovered well enough from a neck injury last weekend to make the active roster and start Saturday night against the Lions.

Locke told The Denver Post after a 24- 7 win against the Los Angeles Chargers that he got hit in the throat during the game. He struggled to talk after the game and clearly had discomfort.

After missing Wednesday’s practice, Locke was a limited participant Thursday and was listed as questionable going into the game.

ROSTER MOVES >> The Broncos made a flurry of moves Saturday ahead of their game against the Lions.

As expected, the set was highlighted by promoting tight end Lucas Krull to the 53- man roster. Krull had already been elevated the maximum three times from the practice squad, so he had to be promoted in order to keep playing.

Last week against Los Angeles, he caught his first career pass for 35 yards.

Denver had a spot for him on the roster because it waived outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins on Thursday. Saturday, the team signed Perkins to the practice squad.

Denver also elevated quarterback Ben Dinucci and defensive lineman Tyler Lancaster from the practice squad for game day.

A team tried to sign Dinucci earlier in the season, but the Broncos convinced him to stay in part by committing to elevating him from the practice squad when they could. Players on the game day roster get a full game check.

“It’s a way for us to help invest in someone that we want and ( who) we see being here as a young, developmental player,” Payton said earlier this month.

It’s the second time Dinucci’s been elevated and is the third and final elevation for Lancaster.

The reserve quar terback, though, was not active for the game.

That’s the same way the Broncos handled his elevation for the Houston game two weeks ago.

The rest of the Broncos’ inactives: OLB Nik Bonitto ( knee), ILB Ben Niemann, DL Elijah Garcia, S JL Skinner, TE Nate Adkins and C Alex Forsyth.

FINE, FINE >> Broncos players picked up a pair of fines on the same play last week in their win against the Chargers.

Inside linebacker Josey Jewell was fined $ 13,659, and outside linebacker Jonathon Cooper $ 5,362, both for unsportsmanlike conduct on a second- quarter sack of quarterback Justin Herbert.

It appears Jewell and Cooper were each fined for doing versions of Jewell’s finger- guns celebration after the sack.
