Bears, CB Johnson agree to 4-year, $76M extension

CHICAGO >> The Chicago Bears and Pro Bowl cornerback Jaylon Johnson agreed Thursday to a four-year, $76 million contract that guarantees him $54.4 million.

Two people familiar with the situation confirmed the financial terms of the deal.

The move comes two days after the Bears placed the franchise tag on Johnson. He would have been due $19.8 million in 2024 had he not agreed to the extension prior to the July 15 deadline. He had said he wanted to remain with the Bears.

RG Dotson to re-sign with Los Angeles Rams

THOUSAND OAKS, CALIF. >> Right guard Kevin Dotson agreed to terms on a three-year contract to stay with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday.

The deal is expected to be worth $48 million for Dotson, who became one of the NFL’S top-rated guards and a pillar of the Rams’ offense last season after they acquired him from Pittsburgh in training camp.

Trubisky to reprise role as backup to Buffalo’s Allen

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. >> Quarterbac­k Mitchell Trubisky is returning to Buffalo to reprise his role as Josh Allen’s backup after signing a two-year contract with the Bills on Thursday.

The player selected No. 2 overall in the 2017 draft rejoins the Bills after failing to re-establish himself as a starter during two rocky seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Highsmith, Piercy tied in delayed Puerto Rico Open

RIO GRANDE, PUERTO RICO >> Rookie Joe Highsmith shot a bogey-free, 7-under 65 to share the early first-round lead with veteran Scott Piercy at the weatherdel­ayed Puerto Rico Open.

Play was stopped for nearly two hours in the afternoon because of heavy rain at Grand Reserve Golf Club, resulting in 54 players failing to finish before play was suspended due to darkness.

Paul to fight Tyson July 20, streamed live on Netflix

ARLINGTON, TEXAS>> Social media star-turned-boxer Jake Paul will fight former heavyweigh­t champion Mike Tyson on July 20 at AT&T Stadium. Netflix will provide live coverage of the bout between the 27-year-old Paul and 57-year-old Tyson, who hasn’t fought since he took on Roy Jones Jr. in an exhibition in November 2020.

It’s still uncertain whether this bout will be staged as an actual pro fight or an exhibition, particular­ly given the age of Tyson, who will be 58 by July.

Brauer becomes first U.S. woman to race alone, nonstop around world

A CORUNA, SPAIN>> Alone, Cole Brauer braved three oceans and the elements as she navigated her sailboat for months.

When she and her 40-foot sailboat arrived Thursday in A Coruna, Spain, the 29-yearold became the first American woman to race nonstop around the world by herself, traveling across about 30,000 miles.

Venus Williams loses first match since the U.S. Open

INDIAN WELLS, CALIF. >> Venus Williams played a match on tour for the first time in about six months on Thursday, and the 43-year-old owner of seven Grand Slam titles gave away the lead and the last 10 games in a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 loss to qualifier Nao Hibino at the BNP Paribas Open. Williams hadn’t competed since a first-round exit at the U.S. Open on Aug. 29.
