Dr. David S. Pearlman, M.D. – “A Life Dedicated to Healing and Compassion”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. David S. Pearlman, MD, a beloved husband, father, esteemed physician, and cherished member of our community. Dr. Pearlman departed this world on January 30 at the age of 90. He leaves behind a legacy of healing, wisdom, and love that will forever be remembered.

Dr. Pearlman was a pioneer in the developmen­t of modern allergy and asthma medicine. Dr. Pearlman’s commitment to providing exceptiona­l healthcare was evident in every patient he treated. His kindness, empathy, and genuine concern for others touched the lives of countless individual­s. Dr. Pearlman was a co-founder of Colorado Allergy and Asthma Centers, which today serves over 48,000 patients. Since the clinic’s inception in 1972, Dr. Pearlman was a principal investigat­or in the Denver Research location, with nearly a thousand clinical pharmacoth­erapeutic trials. He published over 150 articles and texts to inform physicians concerning advances in the field and was the co-author of three editions of the textbook entitled Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology from Infancy to Adulthood.

Over his career, Dr. Pearlman was honored with the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology’s Distinguis­hed Clinician Award and received awards for outstandin­g contributi­ons to the field of allergy and immunology by the American Board of Pediatrics, University of Colorado Medical School and the Joint Allergy and Asthma Task Force. He also served in leadership positions with American Board of Allergy and Immunology and the Clinical Research Network and was Professor Emeritus at University of Colorado Medical School. The practice of allergy will be forever changed by his contributi­ons.

Dr. Pearlman was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfathe­r devoted to his family and friends. As a cellist, David shared his love of classical music with his beloved sister Nan V. Pearlman until the day of his passing. He was a skier, fisherman and world traveler and passionate about politics, history, and medical ethics. His grandchild­ren lovingly referred to him as “Poppy,” a name that always made him smile. He was the husband of Doris Pearlman; Father of Michael (wife Courtney Scantlin); Melanie Pearlman; Brother of Nan Pearlman, NY; Grandfathe­r of Kody & Leo Pearlman. Dr. Pearlman was laid to rest in Colorado on February 4, 2024, surrounded by loved ones who will forever cherish him and his life well-lived. His warm smile, compassion­ate spirit, and commitment to excellence will forever remain in our hearts. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the profound impact he had on the lives he touched. The world is truly without a kind and generous man and husband.
