Clark, Reese headline list of players invited to draft

NEW YORK>> Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese headline a list of 15 players who have been invited to the WNBA draft on Monday, the league announced Thursday.

Clark, who is the career leading scorer in Division I men’s and women’s basketball, is expected to go first to the Indiana Fever. It’s the second consecutiv­e year that the Fever have the top pick.

Other players invited include Stanford star Cameron Brink and South Carolina’s Kamilla Cardoso.

New York officials approve $780M stadium for NYCFC

NEW YORK>> New York City officials approved a plan Thursday to build a 25,000-seat stadium for Major League Soccer’s New York City Football Club next to the New York Mets’ stadium, Citi Field.

The $780 million soccer stadium, expected to open in 2027, will anchor a 23-acre (9-hectare) redevelopm­ent project in the Willets Point neighborho­od that will also include housing, a new public school, retail stores and a hotel.

The new stadium will be New York City’s first venue dedicated to profession­al soccer. NYCFC, which won the MLS championsh­ip in 2021, currently plays home games at Citi Field or at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL Washington player charged with raping 2 women

SEATTLE >> A University of Washington football player has been arrested and charged with raping two women in Seattle, and court documents say he played in two College Football Playoff games for the school after at least one of the allegation­s was known to the university.

Seattle police officers arrested 18-year-old Tylin “Tybo” Rogers last Friday and booked him into King County Jail, KING-TV reported. He was charged Tuesday with second-degree rape and third-degree rape and his bail was set at $150,000 in each case, according to court documents.

Hanifin signs 8-year extension with Vegas

LAS VEGAS >> Noah Hanifin, a trade deadline acquisitio­n meant to bolster the Golden Knights’ blue line, signed an eight-year extension with Vegas on Thursday worth an average of $7.35 million annually.

Hanifin, 27, was acquired from the Flames on March 6.

Alonso signs a multiyear deal with Aston Martin

LONDON >> Two-time Formula 1 champion Fernando Alonso has signed a contract extension to remain at Aston Martin for at least the next two seasons.

The 42-year-old Spaniard is in his second season at Aston Martin, which announced the extension on Thursday as a “multiyear” deal.

Djokovic takes revenge over Musetti at Monte Carlo

>>Novak Djokovic looked sluggish at times and hit several unforced errors but raised his game on important points to advance to the quarterfin­als of the Monte Carlo Masters.

The top-ranked Serb, a twotime Monte Carlo champion, gained revenge over Lorenzo Musetti, who beat him last year at the Country Club in the third round.

Djokovic converted five of six break points and progressed with a confidence-boosting 7-5, 6-3 win.

Second-ranked Jannik Sinner also advanced to the quarterfin­als with a solid 6-4, 6-2 win over Jan-lennard Struff.
