Ankeny Arts Festival to debut this weekend; chorus to hold concert

A new arts festival is coming to Ankeny.

The Ankeny Art Center will debut the Ankeny Arts Festival in Uptown on May 11. The event will feature activities for all ages, such as mini-golf and the Uptown train, and highlight local artists, according to a news release.

The festival will display student artwork alongside pieces from 50 artists who will be selling their work, including paintings, ceramics, woodwork, jewelry, metal and more. There will also be demonstrat­ions, including a live mural painting on an Uptown building, live music from local musicians and food trucks.

“We’re incredibly excited to introduce the Ankeny Arts Festival to the Ankeny community,” Mandi Borst, outreach and promotions director, said in a statement. “This event is not only a celebratio­n of artistic talent but also a testament to the vibrant spirit and creativity that thrives in Ankeny. We invite everyone to join us for a day filled with inspiratio­n, entertainm­ent and support for our local artists.”

Ankeny Arts Festival will be Saturday, May 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along Third Street and Walnut Street in the Uptown historic district.

Ankeny Community Chorus holding spring concert

The Ankeny Community Chorus will stage its spring concert on Friday, May 10 at 7:30 p.m. according to a news release.

The “Festival of Music” concert will be at Prairie Ridge Church, 825 N.W. 36th Street. The song selection will include pop, choral and folk music.

The chorus concert will be free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted. There will be a reception after the concert.
