Top 10 things to do in the Coachella Valley this week

The Coachella Valley is home to a number of events and activities to take part in during the hot summer months. In anticipati­on for these events, we’ve put together a list of things happening this week.

Indio Certified Farmers Market

Browse the assortment of goods the Indio Farmers Market has to offer, including certified produce, fresh hot and cold chef-prepared foods, artisan crafts such as handmade wood and leather gifts, stationery, soap, jewelry, candles and other crafted items. Support the fresh, locally made, and farm-to-table items this market provides. Shoppers can enjoy a Sunday of live music, relaxation and a family-friendly atmosphere.

IW Live at Indian Wells Resort

The arena isn’t the only local venue featuring live music this summer. If you’re looking for a more intimate concert experience, the Indian Wells Resort Hotel presents weekly live music with

Patrice Morris on Wednesdays, Christine Love on Thursdays and Marc Antonelli on Fridays and Saturdays.

Trivia Night

Dacoda Miracle hosts a weekly trivia night at Coachella Valley Brewing Co. that could provide a much-needed es

cape in the middle of the work week. Teams consist of up to six players each and can compete for prizes and discounts, so gather a group of your smartest friends, grab a brew and see if your team has what it takes.

Julio Preciado Concert

In the mood for some regional Mexican music? The legendary Norteño singer Julio Preciado will hit the stge at the Morongo Casino Resort & Spa this Thursday, offering up his biggest hits. The Sinaloan-based singer realized his passion for music at a young age, became a nightclub performer, then networked with other musicians before joining the group Banda Tiburon. Though he’s now a solo artist, Preciado is perhaps best known for his own band Banda Perla del Pacifico’s fourth album, “Como Este Loco,” which reached gold and platinum status both in Mexico and the United States.

When: Doors open at 7:30 p.m.; show begins at 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17

Southwest Food Fest

Calling all foodies, Christiana Green’s

Southwest Food Fest, the Coachella Valley’s latest mid-valley food truck event, is coming to the desert Friday (and every Friday night after.) This familyfrie­ndly experience includes a variety of games, activities, music and gourmet food all summer long.

Weekends at The Rock Yard

Listen to various tribute bands at The Rock Yard outdoor concert stage each weekend. This week features Styx tribute STYXOLOGY with Hot Rodz & Black Rock Candy on Friday, and Jakobs Castle, passion project of magnetic artist Jakob Nowell (son of late Sublime vocalist Bradley Nowell) on Saturday. Food and drinks are available for purchase. Ages 18-plus.

Friday Nights on Pierson

Looking for a unique way to kick off your weekend? Or just not interested in cooking dinner? The Friday Nights on Pierson event series in Desert Hot Springs ends for the summer this Friday. Food trucks will park along the corner of Palm Drive and Pierson Boulevard, and there will be everything from tacos to pulled pork sandwiches.

Saturday Summer Nights with Leanna and Friends

The VIP Lounge upstairs at the Palm Springs Cultural Center is continuing this weekly celebratio­n of pop, soft rock, disco, Latin and more. Drink, dance and soak up the vibes every Saturday night with the feel-good music of artist LEANNA and her friends in the VIP Lounge. Entry includes tasty hotbuttere­d popcorn.

Star Party in the Mountains

Join members of the Astronomic­al

Society of the Desert for this night of family fun. These “sky tours” offer direct observatio­ns of the night sky through telescopes and binoculars — but keep in mind that touching the equipment without permission is strictly forbidden. Minors must be accompanie­d by parent or guardian. No white lights allowed near telescope field. Please note that this event is weather-permitting, and could be canceled due to overcast skies.

Broadway to the Big Screen: ‘Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again’

The Historic Camelot Theatre at the Palm Springs Cultural Center will continue its Broadway to the Big Screen and Back summer film series this week with a showing of “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again.” This “Mama Mia” sequel doubles as a prequel, taking audiences back to the Greek Isles for some flashbacks from Donna’s youth and then to the present day. By this movie, our main character’s pregnant daughter, Sophie, has returned to the island of Kalokairi with dreams of reopening her mother’s business. Expect laughs, tears, and even Cher!
