Knights storm back to stun Avs in OT

Tomas Hertl scored on a deflection 1:23 into overtime as the Vegas Golden Knights, behind a pair of goals by William Karlsson, rallied from a threegoal, third-period deficit to defeat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in Las Vegas.

Hertl, stationed in front of the crease, redirected Jack Eichel’s shot from the left point inside the right post for the game-winner. Hertl’s goal came on a power play after Colorado defenseman Josh Manson picked up a high-sticking penalty on Eichel with 11.2 seconds left in regulation.

Karlsson scored his 29th and 30th goals of the season, the second with 3:37 left in regulation to tie it 3-3. Ivan Barbashev also scored and Adin Hill finished with 21 saves for Vegas (44-28-8, 96 points), which moved within one point of third-place Los Angeles in the Pacific Division with two games remaining for both teams. Vegas also holds the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference.

Cale Makar had a goal and an assist and Ross Colton and Mikko Rantanen also scored for Colorado (49-26-6, 104 points), which is one point behind the second-place Winnipeg Jets in the Central Division. Colorado has one game remaining, while Winnipeg has two.

Alexandar Georgiev finished with 26 saves for Colorado.

Hurricanes 4, Blackhawks 2

Seth Jarvis scored two power play goals in the third period and the Carolina Hurricanes went on to defeat the host Chicago Blackhawks, keeping alive the possibilit­y of finishing with the best record in the NHL.

Jarvis had the tying and goahead tallies before Sebastian Aho notched an empty-net goal in the team’s fifth consecutiv­e victory.

Jordan Staal also scored and Andrei Svechnikov provided two assists for the Hurricanes (52-22-7, 111 points), who are 3-0 on a season-ending road stretch with one game to play. Pyotr Kochetkov made 14 saves.

Chicago’s Frank Nazar scored in his NHL debut and teammate Andreas Athanasiou also had a goal. The Blackhawks (23-52-5, 51 points), playing in their home finale, have lost four games in a row.

Blues 4, Kraken 1

Nathan Walker had a goal and an assist and Joel Hofer made 19 saves as the St. Louis Blues handled the visiting Seattle

Kraken.

Jordan Kyrou, Kasperi Kapanen and Brayden Schenn also scored for the Blues (43-33-5, 91 points), who won for the third time in their last four games.

Jared McCann scored and Joey Daccord made 25 saves for the Kraken (33-34-13, 79 points).

Flames 6, Coyotes 5

Nazem Kadri scored twice in the third period amid his second consecutiv­e three-point game and Andrei Kuzmenko scored once with an assist to lead the host Calgary Flames to a comeback victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

Matt Coronato, Connor Zary and Yegor Sharangovi­ch also scored for the Flames (37-38-5, 79 points).

Dylan Guenther recorded his first career multi-goal game with a pair of tallies while Alex Kerfoot, Matias Maccelli and Josh Doan also scored for the Coyotes (35-41-5, 75 points).
