Rave reviews for Patapsco’s “The Nutcracker”
I was so inspired by the performance of the Nutcracker on Sat. Dec. 1, that I felt compelled to say something about it. As you know, I am no stranger to theatre of any kind so for me to say something like this means something very meaningful.
This was the first time that I had ever gone to see something done by the [Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts] Dance Magnet. (I had seen Theatre and Music Magnet shows but never Dance Magnet). I was totally impressed with the choreography and the professionalism of the dancers! Not only was their dancing precision like and totally inspiring, but the smiles on their faces gave insight into their feelings of joy in performing.
Including the Bear Creek Dance Group was not only perfect but very inspiring! The joy of these children playing mice and children at the party who were misbehaving brought a smile to my face, and I am sure to many of the other audience members too!
I was touched deeply when I saw a child who was using a walker come onstage. Having a special needs child of my own, and working for many years with people with disabilities, I was very interested in how this child was included in the production. Not only was she totally included in the production, she was given special parts to do!
The best part was at the Curtain Call when the two leading performers came out to take a bow with this little dancer with them! It brought tears to my eyes! Not only included but given something very special! This little girl was in her glory! She was experiencing a moment that she will probably treasure the rest of her life!
Kudos to Patapsco High School and Center for the Arts and Bear Creek Dancers for a performance of the Nutcracker that not only was full of the holiday spirit but full of compassion and love! Cathy Stef fen Baltimore Ave
