SHUTER LIBRARY of ANGEL FIRE

-

This year the Shuter Library’s Mardi Gras Ball was themed “Characters in Literature” and what a turnout of characters it was. The Ball was incredibly fun and a huge success. We had 149 guests signed up and all enjoyed being served by waiters walking around with yummy appetizers, followed by a scrumptious full buffet and later being served again by waiters with wonderful desserts: a good time was had by all. There was so much happening and plenty to do, that the evening went by way too fast. We had 70 delicious wines to choose from at the Wine Pull, valued anywhere from $20 to $100, the 50/50 fundraiser brought in $3,310 with the winner taking home $1,655 and there was a selection of auction items on display for viewing. Thanks to the (3) three couples who volunteered and participated in running for King and Queen, the total donations brought in by the Duncans, the Buchanans and urban/goyette was $8,689. This year’s royal couple was Tammie and Steven Duncan and they danced a waltz wearing the royal capes and crowns passed down to them by last year’s royal couple, Carol and Bill Shook.

There were so many wonderful volunteers, that

I need to acknowledge them, starting with my captains:

RB Black: Decorations and centerpieces (along with support from John Belcourt,

Renida Carter, Audra France and Carol Shook) his vision was a creation to behold.

John Belcourt: Wine Pull (tirelessly gathering all the donated wines and packaging them up)

Renida Carter: Treasurer (who stayed sober and spent the ladder part of the evening counting all the donations made the night of the Ball: 50/50 and the King and Queen donations. She was also this years coordinator of the Online Auction which brought in $9,838.

Bill Shook: Our photographer, who spent a good portion of his evening capturing the event and creating memories. His support for me is immeasurable.

Sandy Jones: Coordinated programs and the Galabid registration forms and all-around support

Scott Jones: Galabid auction master, treasurer support and all-around there for me

Terry Maxwell: Who found 3 couples to volunteer as King and Queen participants and followed through on making sure all the donations were added up and sent in.

Melody Costa: Advertising this event on the Shuter library website and for sending out email blasts for the Ball, the auction and 50/50 fundraisers.

Jo Gall: Costume judging along with Judy and Don Willingham

Melody Costa, Dawn Metz and Lucy Humbert: My 50/50 evening sellers.

Dawn Metz, Jo Gall and Randi Sevigny: for total support at the library for all the copy requests (and there were many) and for sitting at Lowes Market to beg for 50/50 donations.

Rick and Kathy Newton, Scott Jones and Bill Humbert: Greeting and checking in the guests

Erich Blazer: For his time spent at the photo booth taking pictures for everyone and for his time in pulling out our coat racks/hangers from storage.

Setting up and taking down took hours and a huge thanks goes to RB Black, John Belcourt, Renida Carter, Audra France, Jane Aubol, Terry Maxwell and Carol and Bill Shook.

We all enjoyed the evening dancing to the Jimmy Stadler band until they kicked us out at 10pm.

Because of all of the support from my Captains and other volunteers, it made this year’s Mardi Gras Ball the success that it was.

As cliché as it sounds, it takes a Village. Yes, the Village of Angel Fire. Your donations provide unique library services to the residents of Angel Fire, surrounding communities and to visitors from out-ofstate. Thank you all for your support in helping to keep the Shuter Library’s doors open.
