Santa Fe Film Festival (SFFF), which happens April 24th-28th, 2024, is a celebration of the best in cinematic arts. More details can be found on their site here: www.santafefilmfestival.com The festival’s program includes curated selections of over 100 film programs, including narrative and documentary features, shorts of all types, tributes to world-renowned film artists and industry professionals as well as a spotlight on local filmmakers. This festivarl extends beyond screenings in theaters to panels, juried awards, Q&As for all films with filmmakers or representation, workshops, red carpet, press interviews, networking, and fabulous parties.
Among the many fine films featured at SFFF 2024 are Successful Outlaw, film maker David Luis Cortez’s documentary portrait of Taos biker, builder and master silversmith, Daniel "Pepe" Rochon, as he builds an off-grid, adobe-style hacienda on Taos Mesa.Cortez tells TECN that he was drawn to Pepe’s “tough disposition and great sense of humor”, and the fact that the builder/silversmith worked closely with the late film star Dennis Hopper and also created the famed 1976 Bicentennial Belt. Cortez says, “As a director, I call it counter- cultural preservation. My goal was to make a character- driven, transcendental documentary that elucidates and expands one’s ideas about sustainability and creativity, and the blending of the two.”
Mora Is Burning is another documentary directed by David Luis Cortez and produced by Scott Campbell & American Commons Media which will screen at SFFF 2024. It is about the Hermit’s Peak Calf Canyon fire, New Mexico’s largest wildfire.
