LWCA awards schol­ar­ships worth $2,500 each to six stu­dents from Fred­er­ick Dou­glass, Dr. Henry A. Wise high schools

Pro­vid­ing fi­nan­cial as­sis­tance to grad­u­at­ing high school se­niors who are en­ter­ing col­lege in Fall 2016, the Prince Ge­orge’s County Lit­tle Washington Civic As­so­ci­a­tion held its 10th An­nual LWCA Schol­ar­ship Awards Pro­gram on June 2 at Ar­row­head Ele­men­tary School in Up­per Marl­boro.

Five stu­dents from Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School and one stu­dent from Fred­er­ick Dou­glass High School were awarded schol­ar­ships worth $2,500 each, a cer­tifi­cate of recog­ni­tion on be­half of County Ex­ec­u­tive Rush­ern L. Baker (D) as well as gift bags from Coun­cil Chair­man Derrick L. Davis (D). The schol­ar­ship re­cip­i­ents in­cluded Nicholas Zade Heard, Maleeka McCutcheon, Paul Lawrence Per­son, II, Mariam San­noh, Vic­to­ria An­tionese Tay­lor — all from Wise High School — and Brit­ney Ni­cole Odom.

The awards were pre­sented by LWCA Pres­i­dent Melvin Hen­der­son, 1st Vice Pres­i­dent Andrea Brown and As­sis­tant Trea­surer Ar­da­nia Wil­liams. Jef­frey Tay­lor, a ris­ing sopho­more at Howard Univer­sity who re­ceived the LWCA schol­ar­ship in high school, shared words of en­cour­age­ment to the six re­cip­i­ents.

Over 20 peo­ple at­tended the pro­gram which in­cluded a mu­si­cal se­lec­tion by Stacy Stith and com­ple­men­tary food from Rosa’s Cater­ing Ser­vice.
