De­cid­ing what to have for lunch based on its im­pact on the en­vi­ron­ment? One hid­den fac­tor most peo­ple don’t con­sider is a food’s “wa­ter foot­print.” Ex­plore the se­cret life of wa­ter in this eye-open­ing ex­hibit and then travel back in time to take a look at how the colo­nials lived with 20 times less of this pre­cious re­source. Don’t be sur­prised if the res­i­dents of the Na­tional Colo­nial Farm en­gage you in a friendly dis­cus­sion about their wa­ter habits or en­list you to help them cook or tend to the gar­den. Free. Us­ing clues and lo­ca­tions, fam­i­lies and groups can drive the North Tract’s Wildlife Loop and nearby trails to hunt for sculp­tured stones, mystery ob­jects, plants and an­i­mals while learning about the his­tory of North Tract and other re­cre­ational op­por­tu­ni­ties. A cam­era or cell phone that takes pic­tures is needed. Ar­rive any­time be­tween 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to be­gin your hunt and plan for 1-2 hours. All ages. Free pro­gram; do­na­tions ap­pre­ci­ated. There will be in­for­ma­tion about hunter safety, ac­ces­si­ble hunt­ing and fish­ing, as well as other con­ser­va­tion and re­cre­ational op­por­tu­ni­ties, in the area.
