Schools move to new Early Start pro­gram

Pro­gram costs will be cov­ered by hir­ing freezes, elim­i­nat­ing 19 cen­tral of­fice-based Head Start po­si­tions

Prince Ge­orge’s County Public Schools (PGCPS) CEO Kevin Maxwell an­nounced Fri­day a new pro­gram op­er­ated and funded by the school sys­tem, called Early Start, to con­tinue Head Start ser­vices for all stu­dents and fam­i­lies.

The new pro­gram — which was an­nounced dur­ing a press con­fer­ence at the Sass­cer Ad­min­is­tra­tion Build­ing in Up­per Marl­boro — will serve 855 stu­dents with a cer­ti­fied and high-qual­ity cur­ricu­lum at 35 pro­gram sites. Stu­dents will have the same in­struc­tors, pro­gram site, trans­porta­tion ser­vices and school meals, while par­ents will have new men­tal health,
