State com­mis­sion awards cer­tifi­cate of need for planned Largo site

The Mary­land Health Care Com­mis­sion voted unan­i­mously last week to ap­prove a Cer­tifi­cate of Need for Prince George’s pro­posed $543 mil­lion Re­gional Med­i­cal Cen­ter in Largo, a state-of-the-art med­i­cal teach­ing fa­cil­ity de­signed to serve the county’s growing pop­u­la­tion of nearly 900,000 peo­ple.

After wait­ing nearly three decades for ap­proval from state reg­u­la­tors, dozens of county of­fi­cials, elected lead­ers and com­mu­nity stake­hold­ers celebrated Fri­day dur­ing an exclusive cer­e­mony at the Cap­i­tal Cen­tre Boule­vard in Largo.
