Baker, busi­ness lead­ers dis­cuss ex­ploratory mis­sion trip to Cuba

Pro­vid­ing busi­ness del­e­gates an op­por­tu­nity to learn more about in­ter­na­tional growth and de­vel­op­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties in hopes of lay­ing the ground­work for fu­ture busi­ness col­lab­o­ra­tions, Prince Ge­orge’s County Ex­ec­u­tive Rush­ern L. Baker (D) spoke about the county’s first-ever busi­ness trip to Cuba last month.

The goal of the his­toric trip, which took place from Nov. 15 through Nov. 20, was to po­si­tion lo­cal com­pa­nies for cur­rent and fu­ture busi­ness op­por­tu­ni­ties that can be de­vel­oped if the U.S. Congress lifts the long­stand­ing em­bargo against Cuba.

About 43 busi­ness del­e­gates from around the re­gion par­tic­i­pated in the ex­ploratory mis­sion, which fo­cused on cre­at­ing an “Artists Ex­change” pro­gram be­tween Prince Ge­orge’s County and Cuban artists, as well as de­vel­op­ing ed­u­ca­tion-re­lated pro­grams be­tween the state and Cuban-based ed­u­ca­tional in­sti­tu­tions.
