Mem­bers needed for boards, com­mit­tees

The St. Mary’s County com­mis­sion­ers are seek­ing cit­i­zens in­ter­ested in vol­un­teer­ing their time by serv­ing on var­i­ous boards, com­mit­tees and com­mis­sions. De­tailed de­scrip­tions of the var­i­ous boards and mem­ber­ship ap­pli­ca­tion are avail­able on the county’s web­site at www.co.saint-marys.md.us/vol­untr/. All ap­pli­ca­tions must in­clude a re­sume and be sub­mit­ted no later than Tues­day, May 15.

Open­ings are avail­able on the fol­low­ing boards, com­mis­sions and com­mit­tees: Air­port Ad­vi­sory Com­mit­tee; Board of Trus­tees Mu­seum Di­vi­sion, De­part­ment of Recre­ation and Parks; Com­mis­sion for Women; Com­mis­sion on Ag­ing; Com­mis­sion on the En­vi­ron­ment; Ethics Com­mis­sion; His­toric Preser­va­tion Com­mis­sion; Hu­man Re­la­tions Com­mis­sion; So­cial Ser­vice Board; Trans­porta­tion Ad­vi­sory Com­mit­tee; and Wi­comico Shores Golf Course Ad­vi­sory Board.

Vacancies on the fol­low­ing boards and com­mis­sions have spe­cial re­quire­ments: Board of Ap­peals (knowl­edge of plan­ning, growth and de­vel­op­ment a plus); Eco­nomic De­vel­op­ment Com­mis­sion (for a com­mu­nity leader or pri­vate in­di­vid­ual); and St. Mary’s County Met­ro­pol­i­tan Com­mis­sion (must be a 3rd District res­i­dent).

Great Mills pool to be closed dur­ing May

The Great Mills Swim­ming Pool will close for sea­sonal main­te­nance be­gin­ning Mon­day, May 14, through Fri­day, May 25. Dur­ing this time, the pool’s air-sup­ported dome struc­ture will be re­moved, con­vert­ing the pool to an out­door fa­cil­ity. Other sea­sonal main­te­nance and staff train­ing will also take place while the pool is closed.

The pool will re­open for nor­mal hours of oper­a­tion on Satur­day, May 26, as fol­lows: Mon­days through Satur­days from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sun­days from noon to 6 p.m. Then, sum­mer hours of oper­a­tion be­gin Fri­day, June 15, and will be Mon­days through Satur­days from noon to 8 p.m. and Sun­days from noon to 6 p.m.

Dog li­cense ap­pli­ca­tion process changes

The St. Mary’s County An­i­mal Con­trol Di­vi­sion asks cit­i­zens, who need to ap­ply or ac­quire a county dog li­cense, to ei­ther come into the an­i­mal con­trol of­fice or sub­mit an ap­pli­ca­tion (along with a copy of the dog’s cur­rent ra­bies vac­ci­na­tion cer­tifi­cate) by mail. Cit­i­zens are asked to not ap­ply on­line for a dog li­cense at this time. Call an­i­mal con­trol at 301-475-8018 or visit on­line at www.co.saint-marys.md.us/es/An­i­malCon­trol.asp. On­line ac­cess now of­fered at so­cial ser­vices of­fices

To af­ford more op­por­tu­ni­ties for res­i­dents to ac­cess so­cial ser­vices in­for­ma­tion on­line, new com­put­ers are in the lob­bies of the St. Mary’s De­part­ment of So­cial Ser­vices Lex­ing­ton Park and Leonard­town lo­ca­tions, as well as at the fol­low­ing DSS part­ner agen­cies — the St. Mary’s County Li­brary sys­tem, South­ern Mary­land Job Source and Three Oaks Cen­ter.

Res­i­dents can also visit DSS staff at the So­cial Ser­vices of­fices lo­cated at 23110 Leonard Hall Drive and 21775 Great Mills Road, as well as ap­ply for ben­e­fits and ac­cess in­for­ma­tion at their con­ve­nience through the Mary­land De­part­ment of Hu­man Ser­vices’ statewide ben­e­fits web­site that pro­vides 24/7 ac­cess via com­puter or smart­phone at https:// my­dhrben­e­fits.dhr.state. md.us

New DSS lobby hours will be Mon­days to Fri­days, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., while DSS staff hours will con­tinue to be Mon­days through Fri­days, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
