Members needed for boards, committees
The St. Mary’s County commissioners are seeking citizens interested in volunteering their time by serving on various boards, committees and commissions. Detailed descriptions of the various boards and membership application are available on the county’s website at www.co.saint-marys.md.us/voluntr/. All applications must include a resume and be submitted no later than Tuesday, May 15.
Openings are available on the following boards, commissions and committees: Airport Advisory Committee; Board of Trustees Museum Division, Department of Recreation and Parks; Commission for Women; Commission on Aging; Commission on the Environment; Ethics Commission; Historic Preservation Commission; Human Relations Commission; Social Service Board; Transportation Advisory Committee; and Wicomico Shores Golf Course Advisory Board.
Vacancies on the following boards and commissions have special requirements: Board of Appeals (knowledge of planning, growth and development a plus); Economic Development Commission (for a community leader or private individual); and St. Mary’s County Metropolitan Commission (must be a 3rd District resident).

Great Mills pool to be closed during May
The Great Mills Swimming Pool will close for seasonal maintenance beginning Monday, May 14, through Friday, May 25. During this time, the pool’s air-supported dome structure will be removed, converting the pool to an outdoor facility. Other seasonal maintenance and staff training will also take place while the pool is closed.
The pool will reopen for normal hours of operation on Saturday, May 26, as follows: Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m. Then, summer hours of operation begin Friday, June 15, and will be Mondays through Saturdays from noon to 8 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 6 p.m.

Dog license application process changes
The St. Mary’s County Animal Control Division asks citizens, who need to apply or acquire a county dog license, to either come into the animal control office or submit an application (along with a copy of the dog’s current rabies vaccination certificate) by mail. Citizens are asked to not apply online for a dog license at this time. Call animal control at 301-475-8018 or visit online at www.co.saint-marys.md.us/es/AnimalControl.asp. Applications and rabies certificate can be mailed to: Emergency Services Animal Control Division, P.O. Box 653, Leonardtown, MD 20650 or visit the office at 23090 Leonard Hall Drive in Leonardtown.
Online access now offered at social services offices
To afford more opportunities for residents to access social services information online, new computers are in the lobbies of the St. Mary’s Department of Social Services Lexington Park and Leonardtown locations, as well as at the following DSS partner agencies — the St. Mary’s County Library system, Southern Maryland Job Source and Three Oaks Center.
Residents can also visit DSS staff at the Social Services offices located at 23110 Leonard Hall Drive and 21775 Great Mills Road, as well as apply for benefits and access information at their convenience through the Maryland Department of Human Services’ statewide benefits website that provides 24/7 access via computer or smartphone at https:// mydhrbenefits.dhr.state. md.us
New DSS lobby hours will be Mondays to Fridays, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., while DSS staff hours will continue to be Mondays through Fridays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
