Craft fair to be held to­mor­row at Gar­vey

The Gar­vey Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Coun­cil is spon­sor­ing a craft fair at the Leonard Hall Recre­ation Cen­ter on Satur­day, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Find hol­i­day wreaths, Christ­mas or­na­ments, jew­elry, cro­chet and em­broi­dered items, cos­met­ics, can­dles, hand­made soaps, hand­bags, baked goods and more. Art classes of­fered at the Lof­fler cen­ter

Dur­ing the month of De­cem­ber, in­stead of four ses­sions, the Lof­fler cen­ter art in­struc­tor will of­fer two in­di­vid­ual work­shops. The first is on Dec. 4 at 10 a.m. and will fea­ture mak­ing hol­i­day cards us­ing wa­ter­color pen­cils and wa­ter­color pa­per. Cost is $25, payable on that day. The sec­ond work­shop will be Dec. 11. This take-home project will be a win­ter wel­come sign on wood. Cost is $25 and will in­clude all ma­te­ri­als. Call 301-4754200, ext. 71658, for more.

Cy­cling ride slated

A YES Cy­cling ride will be held on Wed­nes­day, Dec. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon on the Three Notch Trail, led by Dan and Diana Don­ahue. Ride lengths ad­just to meet the needs of the group. The North­ern Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter has three bi­cy­cles and one trike avail­able to bor­row for lo­cal trips only. Hel­mets and cell phones are re­quired to par­tic­i­pate on all rides and are not pro­vided by the cen­ter. Christ­mas lunchtime sing-a-long planned

Diane Traut­man will play hol­i­day tunes on piano dur­ing lunch at the Gar­vey Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter on Wed­nes­day, Dec.

5, at noon. Fol­low­ing a roast pork meal, Kathy Creswell will lead a hol­i­day sing-a-long with Traut­man on piano and Tommy Chedester on bass. Sign up in ad­vance by call­ing 301-475-4200, ext. 71050. Reser­va­tions are re­quired; walk-ins for lunch or per­for­mance will not be ac­com­mo­dated.

Learn line danc­ing

A new ses­sion of R&B Line Dance is start­ing at the Gar­vey Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter on Mon­days, Dec. 6 to Jan. 18 at 1:30 p.m. Learn some of the line dances that are all the rage like the “Cupid Shuf­fle” or “The Wob­ble.” The cost is $12 and in­cludes six classes, payable to Marie Bond; pay­ment is due at time of reser­va­tion. Play purse bingo

Hol­i­day cel­e­bra­tion at Gar­vey fea­ture band

Come join for a per­for­mance by the duo Rearview Mir­ror at the Gar­vey Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter on Wed­nes­day, Dec. 12, at noon. This oldies va­ri­ety, Iris Hirsch and Glenn Bul­lion, play a blend of rock and roll, R&B, pop, coun­try, stan­dards, disco and Mo­town. Along with the mu­sic, ex­pect hu­mor, mu­sic trivia and some danc­ing. Be­fore the band, there will be a spe­cial hol­i­day com­edy per­for­mance by the se­nior cen­ter’s Reader’s The­ater. St. Mary’s pub­lic schools’ pupil per­son­nel worker Kim McEligot, left, and Ch­eryl Long, the school sys­tem’s di­rec­tor of stu­dent ser­vices, re­ceive a do­na­tion to the St. Mary’s pub­lic schools’ shoe fund from Ge­orge Kirby of the Leonard­town Lions Club. The fund pro­vides for chil­dren in need of shoes through­out the year, and is one of more than 15 lo­cal char­i­ties sup­ported by the Leonard­town Lions.
