More fresh green­ery needed

Do you have fresh green­ery in your yard you would be will­ing to donate to the Lof­fler Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter? The an­nual St. Mary’s County De­part­ment of Ag­ing and Hu­man Ser­vices Christ­mas party will take place on Fri­day, Dec. 14. The de­part­ment is in need of holly and fresh ev­er­greens for dress­ing the ta­bles, win­dows and walls. Dona­tions will be ac­cepted at the Lof­fler cen­ter through Thurs­day, Dec. 13.

Safe-driv­ing class of­fered

A safe-driv­ing course will be of­fered with a fo­cus on ar­eas where older driv­ers could ben­e­fit from ad­di­tional train­ing, in­clud­ing round­abouts, pave­ment mark­ings, stop-sign com­pli­ance, red-light run­ning, and safety is­sues such as speed­ing, seat belt and turn-sig­nal use. The cost is $20 or $15 for AARP mem­bers. It will be held at the Gar­vey Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter on Tues­day, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ad­vance sign-up is re­quired. Hol­i­day cel­e­bra­tion at Gar­vey cen­ter to fea­ture band

Come join for a per­for­mance by the duo Rearview Mir­ror at the Gar­vey Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter on Wed­nes­day, Dec. 12, at noon. This oldies va­ri­ety, Iris Hirsch and Glenn Bullion, play a blend of rock and roll, R&B, pop, coun­try, stan­dards, disco and Motown. Along with the mu­sic, ex­pect hu­mor, mu­sic trivia and some danc­ing. Be­fore the band, there will be a spe­cial hol­i­day com­edy per­for­mance by the se­nior cen­ter’s Reader’s The­ater. Gift dona­tions needed for hol­i­day bingo at Lof­fler cen­ter

Every year the Lof­fler Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter of­fers a spe­cial day of bingo in which Christ­mas shop­ping items are the prizes. There will be a full house of 50 play­ers, and the cen­ter is look­ing for dona­tions of gifts for the prize ta­ble. Dona­tions should be new items suit­able for gift giv­ing. They should not be wrapped. Dona­tions can be dropped off at the Lof­fler cen­ter Mon­days through Fri­days from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 17. For more, call 301-4754200, ext. 71658.

Learn to play Mahjong at Lof­fler

Jean Wu will be of­fer­ing begin­ner classes at the Lof­fler Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter on how to play Tai­wanese Mahjong. Classes would be on al­ter­nat­ing Fri­days from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and could start as early as Jan­uary. Why not start the new year off by learn­ing some­thing new? Chair yoga classes planned

The North­ern Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter of­fers Chair Yoga every Fri­day from 9 to 10 a.m. This class uses mod­i­fied yoga po­si­tions which in­cor­po­rate a chair promi­nently for ease and sta­bil­ity. The chair can be used for seated and stand­ing poses or in­di­vid­u­als can mod­ify fur­ther us­ing it for all po­si­tions. Do Zumba at North­ern cen­ter

Get a jump on your 2019 fit­ness goals and try your first Zumba class for free. The North­ern Se­nior Ac­tiv­ity Cen­ter of­fers Zumba Gold on Tues­days from 10 to 11 a.m. Get­ting fit was never so fun, as you ex­er­cise to up­beat mu­sic while meet­ing friendly and wel­com­ing peo­ple.
