More fresh greenery needed
Do you have fresh greenery in your yard you would be willing to donate to the Loffler Senior Activity Center? The annual St. Mary’s County Department of Aging and Human Services Christmas party will take place on Friday, Dec. 14. The department is in need of holly and fresh evergreens for dressing the tables, windows and walls. Donations will be accepted at the Loffler center through Thursday, Dec. 13.
Safe-driving class offered
A safe-driving course will be offered with a focus on areas where older drivers could benefit from additional training, including roundabouts, pavement markings, stop-sign compliance, red-light running, and safety issues such as speeding, seat belt and turn-signal use. The cost is $20 or $15 for AARP members. It will be held at the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Advance sign-up is required. Holiday celebration at Garvey center to feature band
Come join for a performance by the duo Rearview Mirror at the Garvey Senior Activity Center on Wednesday, Dec. 12, at noon. This oldies variety, Iris Hirsch and Glenn Bullion, play a blend of rock and roll, R&B, pop, country, standards, disco and Motown. Along with the music, expect humor, music trivia and some dancing. Before the band, there will be a special holiday comedy performance by the senior center’s Reader’s Theater. Gift donations needed for holiday bingo at Loffler center
Every year the Loffler Senior Activity Center offers a special day of bingo in which Christmas shopping items are the prizes. There will be a full house of 50 players, and the center is looking for donations of gifts for the prize table. Donations should be new items suitable for gift giving. They should not be wrapped. Donations can be dropped off at the Loffler center Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Dec. 17. For more, call 301-4754200, ext. 71658.
Learn to play Mahjong at Loffler
Jean Wu will be offering beginner classes at the Loffler Senior Activity Center on how to play Taiwanese Mahjong. Classes would be on alternating Fridays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and could start as early as January. Why not start the new year off by learning something new? Chair yoga classes planned
The Northern Senior Activity Center offers Chair Yoga every Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. This class uses modified yoga positions which incorporate a chair prominently for ease and stability. The chair can be used for seated and standing poses or individuals can modify further using it for all positions. Do Zumba at Northern center
Get a jump on your 2019 fitness goals and try your first Zumba class for free. The Northern Senior Activity Center offers Zumba Gold on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Getting fit was never so fun, as you exercise to upbeat music while meeting friendly and welcoming people. Employees at the TownePlace Suites are again this season collecting blankets for children in need. Anyone can stop by the hotel, located on Route 235 behind the Wawa, any time of the day through Dec. 20 to drop off a new blanket to donate to the hospital.
