Food bank plans to open on Fri­day in Lexington Park

The or­ga­ni­za­tion Feed St. Mary’s will hold a rib­bon cut­ting cer­e­mony to­day, Fri­day, Dec. 13, at 5 p.m., to open the new Feed St. Mary’s Food Bank, lo­cated at 46041 Sig­na­ture Lane in Lexington Park, in the U-Haul build­ing off Great Mills Road.

The pur­pose of Feed St. Mary’s Food Bank is to serve as a dis­tri­bu­tion cen­ter for lo­cal food pantries

and soup kitchens, ac­cord­ing to a re­lease. Be­fore be­com­ing fully op­er­a­tional, the food bank will start with a “trial run” in Jan­uary in­volv­ing two pantries, the Church of the As­cen­sion and Good Sa­mar­i­tan.

Once this process as­sesses the lo­gis­tics of be­com­ing fully op­er­a­tional, other or­ga­ni­za­tions will be added, ac­cord­ing to the re­lease.
