Minster beats Parkway in finale
ROCKFORD — Minster used an offensive explosion to defeat Parkway 62-20 on the road Friday night.
Minster’s Johnny Nixon was responsible for eight of the Wildcats nine touchdowns.
The Wildcats forced a fumble on Parkway’s opening drive that left them set up at Parkway’s 22-yard line.
Two Conner Albers runs set up Minster with 1st and goal and Nixon ran it in from 10 yards out for the score.
Minster forced Parkway to punt on its next drive and the Wildcats took over on their own 47-yard line
The Wildcats converted on 3rd and when Nixon found Adam Ketner for an 8-yard gain.
Five plays later Nixon found Austin Wellman for a 25-yard touchdown pass. The made PAT gave Minster the 14- 0 lead.
Parkway answered with a lengthy drive that resulted in a 5-yard touchdown run by Liam Ferrogglaro.
Minster put the game out of reach in the second quarter, scoring five of it’s nine touchdowns in the quarter.
Nixon ran for one from one yard out, Nixon found Ketner for a 33-yard touchdown, Nixon ran for another score from nine yards out and then Nixon connected with Jack Kohne and Phil Trza
ska for a 45 yards and 15 yards, respectively.
In the third quarter, Nixon ran from 10 yards out for another touchdown. The fourth quarter saw another Minster touchdown, this one by Dominic Miller on a 3-yard run.
Parkway scored with 30 seconds left in the quarter, making it the 6220 final.
Minster ran for 288 yards on Friday and finished with 218 yards through the air, outgaining Parkway 506 to 229.
Albers was the game’s leading rusher, running for 95 yards on 12 carries. Nixon went 14-for-17, throwing for 218 yards and four touchdowns and ran for 80 yards and added four more scores.
Bryce Barhorst led the Wildcats with five solo tackles, followed up by Evan Dorsten, Albers and Nathan Bergman who each contributed three. Trzaska added one interception.
Minster will host Delphos Jefferson next Friday in the first round of the state playoffs.
