- From staff reports

NEW BREMEN — Despite a fourth quarter comeback by the Cardinals, three-point shooting helped propel Fort Recovery to a 44- 40 win over New Bremen on Thursday night.

Fort Recovery moved the ball well throughout the game and the Indians hit six of their seven three pointers in the first half as they took an 11-point lead into halftime.

New Bremen got their share of open shots in the half but weren’t able to convert.

The Indians kept it up in the third quarter and increased their lead to 38-24.

The fourth quarter saw the Cardinals (0-1, 0-1 MAC) best performance of the night.

Kaylee Freund scored on a fast break layup to begin the quarter and then Elli Roetgerman scored underneath to cut the Indians lead to 10.

New Bremen then forced a turnover and Freund scored down low to make it an eight- point game and Fort Recovery (3-1, 2- 0) called a timeout.

On the Indians next possession, Freund corralled the long rebound and raced out for a fast break layup.

Later, Roetgerman hit the front end of a one-and-one to make it a three-point game.

Fort Recovery would go up 43-38 and short Roetgerman jumper would again cut the lead to three.

New Bremen called timeout with 8.4 left and then immediately fouled.

The Indians’ Paige Fortkamp missed on the front end the one-and-one but New Bremen couldn’t secure the rebound and Fort Recovery got the ball back..

The Cardinals fouled again and Fortkamp made the second of two free throws to seal the game for the Indians.

Freund led the way on Thursday with a game-high 20 points. Roetgerman added 12, with 10 of her points coming in the second half.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Monday night at home against Lincolnview.
