Lucas commits to Ohio Wesleyan
Before teammates Lilly Ankerman and Madi Anthony committed to college to continue their careers, defenseman Katie Lucas announces in November that she has committed to play soccer at Ohio Wesleyan University.
The senior will be studying business and communications to be a post-secondary education administrator.
Lucas is a three-time All-Western Buckeye League player and a two- time All-Northwest District honorable mention selection. In 2020, she was named to the district’s All-Academic team.
Lucas was a key member of a Roughriders defense that was two shy of the school record in shutouts with 13 this past season — including a stretch of seven shutouts in a row — after a move to a fatback four scheme this season.
In the three years Lucas has been a starter on defense, the team has shut out 25 opponents.
The Battling Bishops are a Division III program and a member of the North Coast Athletic Confer
ence. The program is led by second-year head coach Becca Madison.
The Bishops finished 8-11 overall and 3-5 in conference play in 2019 — the program did not have a season this past fall because of COVID.
Both players are members of a senior class that
has an overall record of 45-22- 6 and 24-8- 4 against the Western Buckeye League, including two of the program’s four league titles.
Ankerman announced she was playing soccer at the University of Northwestern Ohio last Sunday, followed by Anthony attending Bluffton University on Wednesday.
The Roughriders senior will be joining her brother, Kyle, who currently attends Ohio Wesleyan is a member of the men’s swim team.
