Donald L. Kindell, 73
Donald L. Kindell, 73, of St. Marys, died at 10:53 p.m. Wednesday, March 10, 2021, at St. Rita’s Medical Center, Lima.
He was born Dec. 7, 1947, in Greenville, the son of Donald and Treva (Fetters) Kindell.
He married Carolyn Warner on Sept. 12, 2004, and she survives at the residence.
He is survived by his children: Greg (Deanna) Kindell of Sidney, Samantha (Charles) Aston of Orlando, Florida, Timothy (Riane) Bowers of St. Marys and Jonathan Bowers of Lansing, Michigan. He is survived by a granddaughter, Tina (Blaine) Davidson of Jacksonville, Florida and a greatgrandchild: Peyton Davidson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Scott Kindell.
Don was a graduate of West Milton High School. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, and then attended the Ohio Police Academy. He retired as a police officer from the Piqua Police Department.
Don was a renowned expert of British naval history, and had written 20 books about British warships. He was nominated for the Mountbatton Maritime Award, which is given to the author of a distinguished publication that has made a significant contribution to the maritime history of the United Kingdom. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in St. Marys.
Funeral rites will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at the First Church of the Nazarene, St. Marys, the Rev. Tim Smith, officiant.
All visitors to the church are required to wear a mask, in accordance with the mandate of the Ohio Department of Health. Memorial gifts may be given to the First Church of the Nazarene, and condolences may be sent to Don’s family via MillerFuneralHomes.net.
