Bowling teams hold banquet Sunday

St. Marys Memorial High School, along with students and parents, celebrated the bowling teams various successes during this years season, along with the achievements of last year’s teams.

A banquet was held at Varsity Lanes on Sunday to honor the teams that were able to play this year despite the hurdles the year had thrown at them. Since the rise of COVID, many changes had to be made in how the matches were made, along with how certain activities had to be run.

The seasons celebrated were the 2019-2020 season and the 2020-2021 season, which was rife with highs and lows for the bowling team. While both the girls and boys teams won a majority of the games played,

some games did have to be cut short or canceled entirely depending on the various guidelines set up by the CDC. This also included in how many students could play or how many people could come watch the games that were held.

However, the banquet was meant to help honor both teams from both seasons. Awards were handed out to current students, along with older ones that were unable to celebrate last year. The teams, consisting of students from all four years,

were given awards in the forms of certificates, scholarships, and other similar items.

The coaches of both teams hope that the students will remain within the program and that things begin to loosen up involving COVID restrictions. While they were glad that some games were able to be managed, and that people were allowed to livestream them, they do hope that things get back to normal. They want to make sure the students are able to play to the fullest and that everyone is able to participate.

The coaches said they can’t wait to see what’s in store for next season, along with who decides to stay with the team.
