Minster, New Bremen cruise to softball wins

MINSTER -- Minster defeated Spencervil­le 11-1 in a nonleague matchup on Friday. The game ended after five innings.

Kaycie Albers earned the win, allowing just four hits and one walk. She struck out three.

Savanah Bergman had two doubles and two RBIs. Hailee Albers had a double and single, Alayna Albers had two hits. Mikaela Hoskins drove in two runs.

The Lady Bearcats got their run in the first on two hits and a groundout.

In the bottom of the second, Alexis Bishop reached on a dropped fly, getting to second. She moved up on a flyout, and scored on a hit by Alayna Albers.

Two fielding mistakes by Spencervil­le put two more runs on the board for the Lady Wildcats.

Bergman doubled the center. A sacrifice fly by Lyndi Hemmelgarn scored Rachael Hoying, and Bergman then made it 6-1 due to an error at short.

An error and single set up Minster in the third, with Kaycie Albers scoring on a groundout.

They got another in the fourth on hits by Hemmelgarn and Emma Goubeaux to make it 8-1.

After the defense turned an inning-ending double play, Minster went back to work in the fifth.

Hits by Hailee Albers and Hoskins started it. They both moved up on a groundout, then came around to score on a double by Bergman.

After a walk and single, Bishop grounded out. But Bergman was able to score the run that invoked the mercy rule, ending the game. ———

New Bremen 17, Jackson Center 3

NEW BREMEN -- New Bremen used a huge first inning to roll to a 5-inning win over visiting Jackson Center on Friday.

The Lady Cardinals scored 10 runs in their first chance on offense, then added the other seven in the third.

Allison Hays picked up the win, allowing six hits, walking one and getting seven strikeouts.

Callie Wells (triple) and Emma Krieg (dou

ble) had the extra base hits, with 16 total for New Bremen.

Kyla Stachler had three, and drove in four runs. Alayna Ross had two hits and three RBIs.

Every spot in the order had at least one hit.

Jackson Center took a brief lead with one in the first.

A hit by Alayna Theiman was the first, followed by a walk. A groundout by Madi Lozier produced the first run.

Two singles, a walk and another single made it 4-1.

Jackson Center got a second out. The Cards then had an RBI single by Ella Pape, a walk to Thieman, a two-run double by Krieg, then RBIs by Lozier and Stachler. before the third out came on the 14th batter.

In the third, the visitors scored two runs on a triple and groundout.

After the first two batters for New Bremen reached on errors, Stachler drove in one, and the three-base hit by Wells plated two. Three more hits followed, with one by Ross scoring a run.

Jackson Center finally got a couple of outs, but not before Hays scored on a passed ball.

A single by Jessica Heitkamp scored Ross and Emma Keller with the final two runs.
